How do I grade a free response question using a rubric?

Before you grade the free response question, you must have:

  1. An assessment that contains a free response question.
  2. The free response question should have a rubric attached to it.
  3. Students should have taken the assessment and answered the free response question.

Grading a Free Response Question
1. From your home page, click on the Report link of the classroom where you assigned the rubrics.

2. Under the Reports tab, there will be a message letting you know that you have free response questions that need to be graded.  Click on the question to grade it.

3. On the grading player, the question and the student’s response is on the left side, and the grading and rubric are on the right. Click on the Grading tab > use the arrows to set the grade level for each category and enter comments > click Submit to save.
4. Use the Previous and Next links to grade other student responses. Once you are finished, click the Submit and Finish button. The grades will then be sent to the students. Note:  Once you hit Submit and Finish, grading is final and cannot be changed.
Once grading is complete, you will be taken back to your classroom’s report page where you can view the overall performance.
