How do I add a resource so that it displays within the player?

When adding a resource such as a PDF, Google Doc, or JPG to your Gooru collection, the method by which a resource is delivered affects how it displays in the Gooru Collection player.

There are 2 ways in which resources can be delivered: HTTP & HTTPS.

What does this mean?

HTTP means Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It is the protocol (language) used by web browsers and web servers to communicate with each other and to transfer data over the web.
HTTPS means Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It is the secured version of http.

When Gooru is accessed via http protocol, the connection with the web server is unsecured.
When Gooru is accessed via https protocol, the connection with the web server is authenticated and encrypted and hence safeguarded from hacking.

How does the difference between http and https affect how my resource is displayed?

When the protocol used to access Gooru differs from the protocol used to load the collection resource, this scenario is called "Mixed Content.” When there is mixed content, the Gooru player blocks the content from being displayed in the player, but provides a link to open the content in a new tab.

In short, to ensure that your content is displayed within the Gooru player, do not mix http and https.

If you access Gooru via http then add a resource by entering the http version of its URL.
If you access Gooru via https then add a resource by entering the https version of its URL.

The following image shows where you will find http or https in the URL:

The following table summarizes the various access scenarios and their result:

  1. If Gooru is accessed via http, and the resource added is from http URL, the resource opens within the Gooru player.
  2. If Gooru is accessed via http, and the resource added is from https URL, the resource opens in a new tab by clicking “Open in new tab” blue button.
  3. If Gooru is accessed via https, and the resource added is from http URL, the resource opens in a new tab by clicking “Open in new tab” blue button.
  4. If Gooru is accessed via https, and the resource added is from https URL, the resource opens within the Gooru player.
If Gooru is accessed via http or https, and the resource added is from direct upload from your computer’s hard drive, the resource opens within the Gooru player.
